Even though the world seems full of darkness, I can bring the light of hope through the various forms of art I practice: painting, poetry and vocal music. All of my work draws upon my childhood in India and its centuries old cultural traditions. Inspired by my memories of swirling colors, lush flowers, sweet fragrances, lively festivals and the joie de vivre of my people, I combine them with the energy and directness of my adopted home in America, particularly the work of the great mid-century Abstract Expressionist painters.

My paintings are full of bright and vivid primary colors painted with spontaneous and energetic brush strokes.

Echoing the spirit of my brush strokes, my poems are built with simple words, laid out in short, energetic lines, similar in some ways to haiku. With vivid symbolic images, my poetry describes the experiences of joy and sorrow which touch every life.

My vocal music draws from the heritage of Indian classical music and folk songs. This music was passed down through generations, often by anonymous artists, who shaped these forms into deeply personal and individual expressions. Through my performances, I carry that line into the next generation.

Overall, my art reflects my deep belief in the power of human goodness. This belief has been inspired by living in two great nations and participating in their cultures. It is my goal to create work which celebrates and honors this experience.
